Workshop on Court Reform Programme


Some young judges have low capacity. However, there are commendable young judges as there are from among the old ones.

1.2. The opportunity for employment as a judge is not open to all. The sources for judges are still the Faculty of Law of the Addis Ababa University and the Civil Service College where as there are more than 8 public and private law schools in the country.
1.3. The working environment for judges is not conducive. There are no offices, computers and libraries. There is also problem of transportation.
1.4. The selection for further training of judges lacks transparency. Some judges are sent abroad, but the way they are elected is not clear.
1.5. There should be a performance evaluation of judges. Good judges and other workers in the Courts have to be awarded for their good work.
1.6. The Judicial Administration Commission can assist in bringing about the implementation of the Court Reform Program. The judicial freedom and independence also plays positive role in the implementation of the Court Reform Program.
1.7. Academic writings and publications in professional journals analyzing judgments help in the improvement of court administration under the Court Reform Program and in the development of Ethiopian jurisprudence.
1.8. The salary and the life of judges should be changed for the better. Read more
